Stockin' Up!

The dead stock finds have been in effect as of late. For those that don't know, Dead stock is merchandise that is vintage/old but is still new/unworn in it's original packaging or with tags.

First up is the mother load (45 pairs to be exact) of the most amazing jazzy shoes ev-er!! Canvas and Mesh Canvas with crazy colored transparent soles. Mostly men's sizes but some ladies sizes too. You'd think twice about your sneakers if you had these ;)

And gotta have love for some printed leggings!!


Finding bundles of dead stock is one of the most exhilarating experiences, especially when it is still sitting on the shelve or rack of some store...covered in dust and hopefully marked, way, way down in price!

Weekend Come Up's!

And yet another bizzy weekend! Was posted up in Monterey this past weekend working on a fashion show. Where there is work there is always a chance to find a thrift store or two or three. And then of course I had to keep with my theme of going to the flea market with Michelle on Sunday Some of this weekends bounty...

ESPRIT. Back to Roots.

OMG!!! I almost had a heart attack when I found out that ESPRIT was "retro-ing" (there's that word again) some of the items that made them famous in the 80's!!! I calmed down but was still happy when I found out it was that good ol' school logo of theirs, on tees and their famous canvas tote...if they ever brought back some of the items you'll see below, I would most certainly have a guaranteed melt-down!

Let's discuss...ESPRIT was the 80's, no doubt about that, especially here in the Bay being that it was/is a San Francisco based company. The shocking color combo's and kooky graphics created a following that caused hour long waits outside of the SF outlet store. My first piece of ESPRIT was a hand-me-down from a family friend, it was a magenta and teal polo, I cherished that polo. My first trip to the outlet was as big a deal to me as going to Disneyland, and at the time it was an even bigger deal! I remember the ride over the bridge into SF with my teacher, Ms. Gilbertson and her daughter/my friend Cybil. I felt like the luckiest girl in the world! So, as it goes, ESPRIT is going back to their roots and offering the logo that made them famous, for sale again...

Right Place. Right Time.

Some years ago, I came to the understanding that part of "the hunt" is being at the right place at the right time. That what comes your way or comes across your path in the search is what is meant for you at that time. No being sad or disappointed that you weren't at that one estate sale were you heard was bursting with vintage Gucci or Louis Vuitton, or that one rummage sale that offered up a vintage Levi's jean jacket that was then flipped for $700...nope, no tears or stress about it because it wasn't meant for you. Since I started this as a job it has become apparent that there is plenty of stuff out there for everyone. The early bird might get the worm (or vintage Hermes canvas tote, which was the case this last Sunday. As I was entering the flea market my friend Brian was leaving the flea market, with said tote slung over his shoulder) but the late bird might get the vintage Bottega Veneta Bag (which was what this bird got the same day). It's all on some meant to be ish...in my eyes...

A couple of weeks ago, my friend Michelle and I went on a mini power shopping spree in SF. We hit a couple of thrift stores and a local buy/sell/trade resale shop. There ain't no high like a shopping high!! Let me tell you, it was honestly a dizzying experience. We didn't have much time so we shopped fast, we shopped furious and the booty was plentiful! Our last stop was to a Buffalo Exchange. Buffalo Exchange is a chain of resale shops where you can bring your used clothing in to sell or use as trade. As I was checking out, I had a watchful eye on a "buy" that was happening. This middle age women had come in and I was noticing how fun her stuff was that she had brought to sell, good 80's stuff. The buyer pulled out a jacket. It was pretty amazing but the store deemed it too risky of a style to sell at the shop. Not knowing anything about the item, other than it looked insane, I made an offer. I offered that if the store purchased the item I would immediately buy it, that way no risk for the store! They made a price quote to the women, she agreed and seemed pleasantly happy to see this item, that she mentioned she used to wear in the 80's, would find a happy home.

What I had gotten has not only a design marvel but an original piece of Richard Torry. If you aren't familiar with his work then you surely know Vivian Westwood and Malcom McLaren. Torry worked with this O.G. punk rock duo in the 70's. He played along side the famous performance artist Leigh Bowery in the early 90's, yet it was in the 80's that he spent his time on his menswear line, mostly famous for the knitwear. The line ran through-out the 80's and could be found in all the fashion hot spots: New York, Milan, Japan, Paris and London. A piece of fashion design history had found it's way into my life, and it was all part of being in the right place at the right time...and a keen eye for the strange and unusual helps too!

Everything Old is Fresh Again: Cazal x Swagger

It was only a matter of time. And the time has come. While doing a little searching around the internet I came upon a new collabo via both SlamxHype and HypeBeast. Japanese brand Swagger has teamed up with German eyewear brand, Cazal to offer up a super-limited edition of the Cazal 858. Cazal has been around since 1975. My mom rocked them in the late 80's. I remember she came home from the bank one day upset that she had left and lost her sunglasses there. At the time I thought nothing of it. It was years later that I realized the glasses she had lost where Cazal's, the 607's, made popular by Run DMC back in the day. I so wish she still had those. Here's what Slamxhype had to report:

"Swagger has teamed up with Cazal this spring for something really special. German eyewear company Cazal created the iconic frames for the 80’s, dominating the streets of NYC and Japan with their instantly recognizable shades and made famous by RUN DMC. I Collect: Sunglasses Part 1

So, I thought I would start to do some posts on my "collections", a life time of accumulation, really. When I say I was born into this, I wasn't joking! I am posted up in L.A. right now, still sick...in bed but while at the Rose Bowl on Sunday, I picked up a large part of my sunglasses collection from my friend Andre, he is the sunglasses man at the Rose Bowl. Located in the N row in the orange area, close to the restrooms and the bridges to the white section. I wish I could remember the booth number! He has a wonderful offering of vintage frames, from 50's to designer (Dior, YSL, etc), if in need of shades visit Andre!! So, I was saying, I picked up about 26 pairs of my sunglasses that I had brought to him the month before to re-lense, a service he provides to friends. He works magic!! I handed him my frames and told him "Go Crazy!"

60's Cateye Frames, I have had these since I was about 7 years old. I was huge into the 50's and 60's as a kid. The original lenses were glass but I broke them many years ago, makes me happy to have them back in action!

A rare treat and my weekend come-upin's!

Posted up at the Rose Bowl today...I should have known that when I woke up at 4:21 am (I still had 39 more mins of precious sleep!!) in a cold sweat, complete with a sore throat and stuffed nose that the day was going to be rough! Apparently people where more interested in egg hunts and chocolate bunnies than shopping and well, the weather most certainly left something to be desired. That's cool, more stuff for me! (um, I don't need more stuff!)

These came walking into my booth today...Ultra RARE Nike Graffiti Hoops. The owner of these feets and sneaks is Mr. Touch of the Fruition family. I knew that he owned them because he spoke about them in his interview on BedHeadRed, go to Poor Mans Poetry.

And I quote Mr. Touch as saying "Shoes are meant to be worn!" (and hurt peoples feelings too, they are a beautiful shoe!)

I happen to be staying very close to Echo Park, speaking of Mi Vida Loca, and actually stayed in Echo Park last night...I hope you are understanding the connection...I am sick and slightly delirious...

Ver Unica's Wedding Trunk Show!

Made it out tonight (or last night by the time you are reading this), to visit SF's finest up-scale vintage clothing store, Ver Unica. My very first account and very dear friends...Willow and Cindy offer the finest selection of the vintage goodness, sprinkled with some of the cutest offerings from brands like Judi Rosen, She-Bible and Kit Kit Dodge. Throughout the year they host specialty themed trunk shows and the first of the season was their Wedding Trunk Show!! Showcasing a years worth of collecting vintage items for the bride to be, bridesmaids, wedding attendees and that "something old" gift. Here are some picts from the night...

Balenciaga "Edition" Line.

We all know (at least we should know) that fashion is reinventing the past. Putting your twist on by-gone eras, up-dating the old, and recreating what the fashion forefathers & mothers put down for us so long ago. Sometimes it's just bringing it back exactly as it was. The term "retro" has been used a lot the past few years, referring to the new version of the old, it's been mighty popular to dig in the crates and pull out the O.G. item and just offer it up in new color-ways and maybe some new fabrics. It offers a bit of nostalgia for those that lived it and an opportunity for those not even born at that time to live it up in the now! Well former assistant of Balenciaga, Ghesquiere, who actually requested the creative director position at Balenciaga and got it, is no stranger to what I am talking about. He has been holding down the reins for sometime and doing a mighty fine job, if I do say so myself! He's given the house a completely new image, and has only recently revived classic Balenciaga looks with updated fabrics for the new "Edition" line.

What A Weekend!!

I wish I was still sleeping. But as it turns out, I don't get paid to sleep. The weekend started with a M.I.S.S. Crew dinner and craft corner session on Friday night in Mama's kitchen. We are gearing up for the next up-date of the content portion of the site, so eating and crafting were in order and that went till way past 3 in the morning...we are hardcore when it comes to food and crafts. Saturday was the sample sale hosted by the lovely ladies of NISA. The weather was perfect and the people came to shop!

Pauline rolled deep to the sale...and this sweet fellow (who's name has escaped me) bought about half of my t-shirt/sweatshirt collection, one being this goofy "Clownin Around" sweatshirt.

So, after that sale, I geared up for the Alameda Antiques and Collectables Faire that happens every first Sunday of the month. We are not going to talk about how painfuly slow it was. BUT later that evening made up for it! One of my NY accounts, Hairy Marys, was in town. Sharon Broit is the owner of this fine LES establishment. We set up an appointment and I opened up the Palace de Goods for some shopping!! OH MY, did we have fun!!! Sharon is great!! We talked and laughed and dove deep into the piles looking for items for her store, she did good! Before we knew it, the time was fast approaching 1130pm. We had to call it a night but we are planning on more gatherings like this in the near future! Here is a small sampling of some of the 70's poly Good-ness Sharon will be bringing to her shop in NY!
